To Give Something Back (2020–24) consists of a transparent plastic pillow that serves as a container for a photographic image embedded within. On the underside of the pillow appears a photograph of a fur hat - originally taken at the very location where the pillow now resides. Kellein has the hat move through several metamorphoses: photographed before a red backdrop, it becomes a resin sculpture in the shape of a plush cushion, returned to its accustomed place on a lace doily atop a wooden shelf as a gift for a person who was unwell and is now gone. She has filmed grainy footage of this seemingly simple act of replacement and later used both video and still images.
